Mammals

In the past year we have had 3 fox cubs and 2 badger cubs born in Lynwood and we hope to have more this year. The Badgers have apparently moved in to Lynwood last year from the set on Broomspring lane. We have had a bit of a loss from the hedgehog population as one of the badgers has discovered how to open them like a tangerine! We have found a number of grizzly hedgehog skins in the area with no body and according to Sheffield badger watch this is a common learned behaviour that is passed on among badger sets. The bats have also increased in number due to the large amounts of insects drawn to the meadows we have recorded at least 25 in Lynwood in one evening. If you do come down on a summer evening look out for foxes, badgers, bats and comical wood mice climbing through the wildflowers.
